Guns are instruments of murder , thus, it is sacriligous for religious leaders to ask to be allowed to carry guns in church , no matter the provocation . In the book of proverbs 25; 26 , those who falter or show weakness before the enemy are likened to a pool of murky water . There is no shortage of murk in the church as it is composed today . The proliferation of churches with questionable motives has taken christianity from the pedestal of spiritualism to the mundane level of business , a business that revolves around money and sex . The immorality and opulence pastors indulge in is worrisome . Modern day pastors have been accused of immorality , avarice and fornication .
The sixth commandment says ‘ do not commit murder ‘ . How then do we reconcile having the bible(peace) in one hand and the gun(war) in the other ? Had the pastors requested for round the clock police protection , that would have been more acceptable , leaving unto ceaser what belongs to him . What we should be asking ourselves is why church leaders have become targets nowadays . As a young boy i could see even the most unrully of children and adults sober up in the precincts of the church . The pastor was respected then and God answered prayer . Real miracles used to happen as opposed to the circus we nowadays see on Tv every sunday . Those were the days when church leaders were people who had matured both physically , psychologically and spiritually . A stable marriage , moral aptitude and respect for family values were prerequisites to pastorship . Today , any Tom Dick and Harry , tricksters , opportunists and youngsters barely out of their diapers are pastors , marriage counsellors and church leaders .
In the book of Mathew , christians are urged to ‘ turn the other cheek ‘ , a call to patience , meekness and perseverence , values the younger generation of church leaders , in their youthful impetouosity , are in dire need of .
We have deliberately desecrated Gods house and taken our foibles , wars and grudges there . His wrath shall also manifest itself there .
Freedom of expression is a fundamental right that not even the bullish tendencies of the police can suppress in their overzealousness to massage the establishments bruised ego . Unless the word definations for ‘propaganda’ and’ incitement’ changed , the inspector general of the police should desist from intimidating members of the press , especially Mohammed Ali and John Allan Namu for effortlessly doing what the investigative arm of the police is unable or unwilling to do .
The Inspector generals warnings negate sections 33 and , especially 34(a) -(b) of the constitution while stiffling the citizens right to access information as stipulated under section 35 of the constitution .
Jicho Pevu , in airing the clip on the Westgate mall attack , did not amount to propaganda for war , incitement to violence nor hate speech . On the contrary , that narrative appeared to sober us up by making us the wiser to the shortcomings of those we have blindly trusted for our safety . The Jicho Pevu narrative is factual in as much as it is based on closed circuit television imagery that the authorities would not have wished us to see . The story is not fictitious as the IG would want us to believe . People lost lives and lifetime investments and we are yet to be shown bodies of the terrorists .
While fighting the loathsome Al shabaab in Somalia , the United nations accused our KDF soldiers of stealing and selling charcoal , an allegation i dont remember hearing anyone in authority vehemently deny . In the Westgate mall saga , the same forces , having rudely interrupted the RECCE company’s well coordinated rescue plans , are accused of looting . The area had been cordoned off and civilians had fled. Who was responsible for the loses incurred by those doing business at the mall ? There is pictorial evidence showing soldiers walk into the mall carrying guns only to emerge with loaded paperbags . At this point , everything is left to conjecture because nobody is giving us the correct information . Even if we buy General Karangi’s story of an order for the soldiers to go fetch water from the supermarket , it still amounts to looting because there was’nt anybody in the supermarket to sell them water .
We will feel much safer if our security forces pursued the few leads they have on terrorists instead of harassing journalists and labelling anything that puts the government in bad stead as falsehoods .
For crying out loud , ours is a self proclaimed digital leadership that must be more tolerant and willing to explore possibilities , why borrow a leaf from fascism ?
Not even the institution of the presidency , the highest in the land , is as deified as the judiciary . At some point , both the executive and legislature are forced to bow to the judiciary yet the Gladys Boss Shollei versus JSC saga exposes the sacrosanct judiciary for what it is . The aura of saintliness around the judicial system is a facade behind which lies a pile of stinking rot centred on corruption , extortion and nepotism , the very vices the system was created to fight , thus defeating the purpose for which it is in existence .
The JSC is made up of some individuals who are averse to criticism when directed at them but who , if anything else , made ‘names’ spewing venom and who see nothing good in others . This condescending hollier than thou attitude has ensured that the judiciary works at cross purposes . We may never really get to know the whole truth about the allegations made against the JSC after it acted preciptiously in dismissing mrs Shollei and recommending the immediate commencement of investigations against her . Mrs Gladys Boss Shollei publicly made some very serious allegations against JSC that have to be thoroughly investigation with a view to clear the dented image of the judiciary . Unfortunately , members of the JSC chose to hide behind some obscure laws to evade public grilling by the parliamentary legal committee . That after Shollei exposed the goings on behind the scenes in the corridors of justice the JSC immediately reinstated her , having unproceduraly suspended her in the first place , was suspicious enough . Refusal to have the proceedings made public gives the impression there are skeletons some individuals dont want hang out on the balcony . What are these issues ? And why is there a spirited conspiracy to shut mrs Gladys Shollei up by painting her black and refusing to objectively listen to her side of the story ?
JSC should not be allowed to have the last laugh after sacking mrs Shollei . They should not be allowed to circumvent thorough scrutiny of their activities , actions and misdeeds , especially the misappropriation of funds bit . The twin issues of favouritism and nepotism should also be investigated .
Ever since chief justice Mutunga took over office , there have been undercurrents at the judiciary that appear to have taken the edge off him , some of which manifested themselves when some judges defied his order to move offices . What action did he take against these judges for open defiance ?
Kenya is ranked amongst the most corrupt globally . Despite public rhetoric by the executive to the contrary , the vice continues to entrench itself deeply , refusing to go away . Unscrupulous individuals , crooks , tax evaders and many crafty politicians evade justice by securing injunctions as easily as wink . After the injunctions , everything just goes away quietly . Our judicial system must be made to be more accountable and transparent .
The swipe at mr Koffi Annan by Kenya’s foreign cabinet secretary , Amina Abdallah , on account of his personal views on the ICC was uncalled for in as much as those views are not legally binding on anyone. Annan may live in Switzerland but his understanding of events in Africa cannot be questioned.
In her spirited defence of president kenyatta , messrs Amina Abdallah wondered aloud which sitting head of state ever appeared in a court of law while in office .
Perhaps it will interest Amina to know that in 1997 , William Jefferson Clinton , president of the largest democracy in the world , was taken to court in a civil litigation suit by Paula Corbin Jones .
While president Clintons lawyers raised the same issues Amina raises and sought deferment , a lower court granted it but on appeal , it was set aside by the court of appeal which denied the motion of immunity pointing out the constitutional provision which did not grant immunity for actions committed prior to the presidents assumption of office.
Our constitution borrows heavily from that of America . Does the kenyan constitution give blanket immunity to a president even for crimes allegedly committed while outside office as some activists and the presidents inner cabal wants us to believe ? Should that be the case , does it not also apply to the deputy president ? Why was mr William Ruto encouraged to attend the ICC in person unless he was being set up as the sacrificial lamb ?
Desperate attempts to stop president Uhuru from going to the Hague have gained intensity and the presidents own deportment suggests he might decline the ICC invite . It is within his powers to disregard the court , yet not honouring the ICC summons is a simplistic solution to a complex problem that cannot be wished away . There are those , including the African Union , who selfishly believe the president must be insulated without factoring in other considerations and implications . As the adage goes , pride comes before a fall and there is no paucity of it in the elite AU club . In ratifying the Rome statute , we made our bed and might as well lie on it . Kenya is not on trial , neither are Kenyans as there is a clear distinction between the accused and mother kenya that should not be confused for political expediency . I do not know at what point the presidents problems became mine or of Kenya . It should be noted that any repercussions on the country as a consequence of defiance will hurt millions of the indigent as the wealthy enjoy the comfort given by their wealth . The welfare of an individual or two should not be given precedence over that of millions of desperate kenyan’s.
